Vietnam Overpowers Alas Pilipinas as Filipinas Absorb Second Straight SEA V.League Loss
Alas Pilipinas Women suffered their second consecutive defeat in the 2025 SEA Women’s V.League, bowing to a dominant Vietnamese squad, 13-25, 21-25, 25-23, 9-25, on Saturday at Terminal 21 Korat.
The loss dropped the Philippines to a 0-2 record and left them in danger of missing the podium in the tournament’s opening leg. In contrast, Vietnam improved to 2-0, securing at least a top-three finish heading into its much-anticipated clash with Thailand.
Filipinas Rally in Set 3 but Run Out of Steam
After falling behind two sets to none, the Filipinas showed heart in the third frame. Behind key plays from Eya Laure, Vanie Gandler, and Dell Palomata, Alas Pilipinas fought back from a 21-20 deficit. Gandler and Laure hit consecutive shots into the corner before Palomata caught the defense off guard with a perfectly placed tip, giving the team a slim 23-22 lead.
Their defense stepped up late as Justine Jazareno anchored a solid floor game, helping the team close out the set with a gritty 25-23 win — their only highlight in an otherwise uphill battle.
Vietnam Responds with a Statement Set
But the third set stumble only fired up Vietnam. Led by star hitters Bích Tuyền and team captain Trần Thị Thanh Thúy, the Vietnamese opened the fourth set with a blistering 18-6 run, quickly crushing any hopes of a Filipino comeback. What began as a modest 5-3 lead ballooned into a 20-7 gap, eventually ending in a lopsided 25-9 finish.
Vietnam’s consistency and firepower proved too much, especially in the closing stages, as they dominated every facet of the game in the final set.

What’s Next for Alas Pilipinas?
With back-to-back losses to regional heavyweights Thailand and Vietnam, Alas Pilipinas (0-2) now turns its attention to Indonesia (0-1) on Sunday, August 3 at 2:30 PM (Manila time) — the final match of the first leg for both teams.
A win could keep the bronze medal within reach, depending on the outcome of Indonesia’s game against Thailand later Saturday. A loss, however, would leave the Filipinas winless heading into the second leg in Vietnam next week.
