Final Gilas Lineup Revealed for FIBA Asian Qualifiers vs Guam
Gilas Pilipinas is rolling out a full-strength roster as it gears up for back-to-back FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers clashes against Guam on November 28 and December 1. The national team kept most of its core intact while adding a fresh face to reinforce an already deep frontcourt.
One of the biggest additions—literally and strategically—is former UP Fighting Maroon Quentin Millora-Brown, who officially secured a spot in the final 12-man lineup.
Frontcourt Boost: Millora-Brown Steps In
With 7-foot-3 Kai Sotto still sidelined as he recovers from an ACL injury, the 6-foot-10 Millora-Brown steps in to provide size and versatility. The US NCAA product and former Macau Black Bear will be making his national team debut, joining a stacked frontline that includes:
- AJ Edu
- June Mar Fajardo
- Japeth Aguilar
- Justin Brownlee
- Carl Tamayo
- Kevin Quiambao
Tamayo, who faced visa issues earlier in the week, cleared them just in time after successfully passing his US visa interview on Monday.
Backcourt Firepower
Gilas’ guards remain just as formidable. The backcourt unit features:
- Dwight Ramos
- RJ Abarrientos
- Scottie Thompson
- CJ Perez
- Chris Newsome
Abarrientos, now part of the Barangay Ginebra core, joins fellow Gin Kings Thompson, Aguilar, and Brownlee in the final lineup.
Who Didn’t Make the Cut
The three players who didn’t make the final 12 for this window are:
- Troy Rosario
- Jamie Malonzo
- Juan Gomez de Liaño
Gomez de Liaño earned his pool invitation after a promising rookie campaign for Converge, while Malonzo made the pool despite his brief B.League run. Rosario has been one of the program’s steady pieces since the Asia Cup buildup.
Team Schedule and Delegation
Gilas wrapped up its final practice on November 24, then departed for Guam the following night, after completing a week-long training camp.
The Philippines men’s national basketball team faces Guam at 5 p.m. on Friday, November 28 at the University of Guam Calvo Field House, before hosting the rematch on Monday, December 1 at the Blue Eagle Gym.
Gilas will battle a Guam squad headlined by Jericho Cruz of San Miguel Beermen, adding another layer of familiarity and competitiveness to the matchups.
