San Beda Overpowers San Sebastian Behind Miller’s Career Game
The San Beda Red Lions continued their dominant run in the NCAA Season 101 Seniors Basketball Tournament, overpowering the San Sebastian Golden Stags with a decisive 62-50 victory on Sunday at the Playtime Filoil Centre in San Juan.
Rookie sensation Agjanti Miller turned in a career performance, exploding for 24 points and six rebounds to steer San Beda to its fourth straight win, improving to 6-1 atop Group B.
Miller, the 22-year-old forward was unstoppable on both ends, taking charge whenever the Golden Stags threatened to rally. After San Beda built a commanding 23-point lead, San Sebastian fought back to trim the deficit to just eight, 54–46, early in the fourth quarter. But Miller responded with clutch baskets down the stretch, scoring the Red Lions’ final six points to put the game away.
Veteran forward Jomel Puno delivered another strong outing for San Beda, recording a double-double with 10 points, 17 rebounds, three assists, a steal, and a block. The Red Lions also asserted their dominance on the boards, outrebounding San Sebastian 47–33, while hitting 31.8% from beyond the arc compared to the Stags’ 13.6%.
Despite committing more turnovers, San Beda’s defense held firm, limiting San Sebastian to just eight points off turnovers.
For the Golden Stags, Jhuniel Dela Rama put up a solid effort with a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double, while Ian Cuajao added 10 points, three assists, and two rebounds. However, it wasn’t enough to stop their slide, as San Sebastian fell to 1-7, marking their fifth straight loss.
The Red Lions will look to sustain their momentum when they face the Perpetual Altas on Wednesday, October 29, while the Golden Stags hope to end their skid against a surging Letran Knights squad on the same day.
