Alas Pilipinas Sweeps Indonesia to Clinch 2025 SEA V.League Leg 2 Bronze Medal
Alas Pilipinas Women wrapped up their 2025 SEA Women’s V.League campaign on a high note, overpowering Indonesia in straight sets, 25-17, 25-17, 28-26, to secure another bronze medal on Sunday, August 10, in Ninh Binh, Vietnam.
The Filipinas, who opened the tournament with back-to-back losses to regional giants Thailand and Vietnam, bounced back in commanding fashion against Indonesia — a familiar rival that once again became their ticket to the podium.
This victory marks the Philippines’ sixth overall third-place finish in the Southeast Asian tournament and their fourth consecutive bronze medal in the SEA V.League.
Dominant Start, Gritty Finish
From the opening whistle, Alas Pilipinas dictated the pace, storming ahead in the first two sets with identical 25-17 wins. The third set, however, turned into a tense battle as Indonesia seized control and built a 21-18 lead late in the frame.
Refusing to fold, Eya Laure delivered back-to-back attacks to tie the game at 22-all. Bella Belen then stepped up in the clutch, hammering in three crucial kills to push the Philippines within striking distance of victory.
The drama intensified as Indonesia reclaimed the lead at 26-25, only for Belen to respond with a sharp crosscourt hit. Angel Canino followed with a decisive kill block to bring up match point, before an Indonesian attack error sealed the 28-26 sweep for the Filipinas.
Bittersweet Victory with Injury Scare
The win, however, was marred by a concerning moment in the first set when opposite spiker Alyssa Solomon suffered an apparent knee injury after attempting to save a ball. The former National University standout had to be stretchered off the court and did not return to play, though she rejoined her teammates on the bench in the second set.
Before her exit, Solomon was instrumental in giving Alas a commanding 17-10 lead in the first frame. The team replicated this mid-set surge in the second, unleashing a 9-2 run to take another 17-10 cushion and move within a set of the sweep.
