Alas Pilipinas Secures Bronze in SEA V.League After Four-Set Victory Over Indonesia

Alas Pilipinas Women closed out their 2025 SEA V.League Leg 1 campaign on a high note, defeating Indonesia in four sets, 25-20, 25-20, 16-25, 25-13, to clinch the bronze medal on Sunday at Terminal 21 Korat.

The win marked a resilient finish for the Filipinas, who bounced back after back-to-back losses to Thailand and Vietnam in the first two days of the tournament. The victory gave the Philippines a 1-2 record and its third consecutive third-place finish in the regional league, replicating their performance in both legs of the 2024 edition.

Dominant Start, Brief Setback, and a Commanding Finish

The Nationals started strong, taking the first two sets with identical 25-20 scores, showcasing fluid playmaking and aggressive offense. However, Indonesia stormed back in the third frame behind Ersandrina Devega and Megawati Pertiwi, breaking the rhythm of the Filipinas to extend the match with a 25-16 win.

But Alas Pilipinas, led by team captain Jia De Guzman, came roaring back in the fourth.

A red-hot 4-0 start, capped by Alyssa Solomon’s scoring burst, set the tone for the final set. Fifi Sharma then delivered back-to-back blocks to widen the lead to 10-3, while Solomon continued her rampage with an ace and a powerful back-row kill to stretch the gap to 12-5.

Eya Laure followed with consecutive kills on the left flank, before De Guzman added a service ace to push the lead to 18-6.

Final Push and Finishing Blow

Though Indonesia mounted a brief 3-0 rally—highlighted by blocks against Laure and an ace from Arneta Putri Amelian—the Filipinas quickly regrouped after a timeout. Solomon and Angel Canino teamed up for three straight points, and Sharma took advantage of a one-man block to bring up match point at 24-14.

Canino then soared from the back row to seal the match with a resounding kill, wrapping up the bronze-medal effort for the Philippines.

Signs of Promise Despite Setbacks

Despite falling short of a finals appearance, Alas Pilipinas showed resilience throughout the tournament—snatching a set each from powerhouses Thailand and Vietnam, and ultimately delivering a strong finish against Indonesia.

Since the SEA V.League’s inception in 2019, Thailand remains the only country to win the gold, leaving silver and bronze still up for grabs. While a championship remains elusive, this bronze medal adds to the growing consistency of the national squad on the regional stage.
