Cignal sweeps Choco Mucho in dominant PVL Reinforced Conference opener
The Cignal HD Spikers kicked off their 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference campaign with a resounding sweep against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans (25-18, 25-21, 25-16) on Thursday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The Choco Mucho team, missing key player Sisi Rondina, struggled to find their rhythm against a well-coordinated Cignal squad.
Venezuelan import MJ Perez, a newcomer to the Cignal roster, emerged as a dominant force. She finished the match with a game-high 22 points, showcasing her offensive prowess with 19 attacks, two aces, and a block. Perez’s seamless connection with playmaker Gel Cayuna (15 excellent sets, 7 points) proved to be a major advantage for Cignal throughout the match.
Cignal’s defensive strategy also played a crucial role in their success. Free agent signing Judith Abil, making her debut as a libero due to the absence of Dawn Macandili-Catindig, impressed with 15 excellent digs and eight excellent receptions, solidifying Cignal’s backcourt.

Despite fielding Greek import Zoi Faki and veteran Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Choco Mucho failed to establish a consistent offensive rhythm. Faki ended the match with 13 points, while Santiago-Manabat contributed eight points. The absence of Rondina and the team’s struggles to integrate their new players were evident throughout the encounter.
Cignal will carry their momentum into their next match against ZUS Coffee on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Choco Mucho will seek redemption when they face Akari on the same day, both matches taking place at the Philsports Arena.
