Marina Tushova shatters records, powers Capital1 past Choco Mucho
In a spectacular five-set thriller at the Philsports Arena, Marina Tushova‘s record-breaking performance led the Capital1 Solar Spikers to a victory over the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, with set scores of 13-25, 25-21, 18-25, 25-20, 15-13.
This win lifts Capital1 to third place in Pool B of the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference, with a 2-2 record.
Tushova’s performance was nothing short of historic, as she shattered the league’s scoring record with an incredible 45 points. She surpassed the previous record of 44 points set by Priscilla Rivera of Akari during the 2022 Reinforced Conference.
In addition to setting the scoring record, Tushova also broke the attacking record with 43 kills, surpassing Kia Bright’s 41 kills from her time with BanKo Perlas in the 2018 Reinforced Conference. Tushova’s all-around game was on full display as she also recorded 18 excellent receptions and 12 excellent digs, completing a rare triple-double performance.
Tushova’s dominance was capped off with a decisive game-winning back-row attack, sealing the victory for the Solar Spikers.
Despite Tushova’s standout performance, no other Capital1 player reached double digits in scoring. Des Clemente and Julia Ipac contributed seven and six points, respectively, while setter Iris Tolenada added 17 excellent sets and five points. Rookie libero Roma Mae Doromal also impressed with 16 excellent receptions and 12 excellent digs.
The victory is a significant boost for Capital1, who had only won a single game in the previous conference. They will look to continue their winning streak when they face ZUS Coffee on Tuesday at 3:00 PM at the same venue.
On the other side, Choco Mucho, now tied with Petro Gazz at 1-3, suffered a tough loss despite a strong showing from Greek import Zoi Faki, who scored 28 points. Dindin Santiago-Manabat added 16 points, including 12 attacks, two blocks, and two aces, while Maddie Madayag and Royse Tubino chipped in with eight points each.
The Flying Titans will seek to bounce back in their next game against Petro Gazz on Tuesday at 5:00 PM, aiming to turn their fortunes around in the competitive Pool B standings.
