Brownlee’s heroics lift Ginebra over TNT in Game 3 to stay alive in Governors’ Cup Finals
Justin Brownlee came up clutch on both ends of the court, powering Barangay Ginebra to an 85-73 victory over TNT Tropang Giga on All Saints’ Day at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Brownlee’s all-around brilliance late in the game helped the Gin Kings avoid a 0-3 hole, shifting the momentum in the best-of-seven PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup Finals series, now standing at 2-1 in favor of TNT.
After struggling to find his range in the series, Brownlee finally hit his first three-pointer with 6:39 left in the fourth, igniting a decisive 17-6 Ginebra run. Brownlee capped his performance with critical defensive plays, stripping the ball from Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and blocking a Calvin Oftana three-point attempt. These stops fueled the Gin Kings’ push, transforming a close 68-67 lead into a comfortable 12-point win.
Brownlee led Ginebra with 18 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, and four blocks.
Key contributions came from Maverick Ahanmisi, who added 16 points and eight boards, while Scottie Thompson posted 15 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Head coach Tim Cone also extended his rotation, giving veterans LA Tenorio and Joe Devance vital minutes that helped stabilize the team’s energy and control.
Ginebra’s defense proved decisive, holding TNT to just 32.6% shooting on 86 attempts.
Hollis-Jefferson, who played the entire 48 minutes, put up 24 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists but struggled with efficiency, making only 30.8% of his shots. Poy Erram (12 points), Jayson Castro, and RR Pogoy (10 each) rounded out the scoring for TNT, but the Tropang Giga couldn’t overcome Ginebra’s late defensive surge and three-point advantage.
With the series back within reach, the Gin Kings aim to carry this momentum into Game 4, set for Sunday, November 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the same venue.
