Alas Pilipinas claims bronze in SEA V-League with win over Indonesia

Alas Pilipinas Women secured a bronze medal finish after a hard-fought 25-23, 15-25, 25-23, 25-21 victory against Indonesia, capping off their first leg run in the 2024 SEA V.League on Sunday at the Vinh Phuc Hall in Vietnam.

Alyssa Solomon led the way for the Philippines, delivering a team-high 16 points, including 14 attacks, one block, and one ace. Under the guidance of head coach Jorge de Brito, Alas Pilipinas finished third in the four-team field, while Indonesia ended up fourth after a winless campaign.

This bronze medal marks the first leg podium finish for the Philippines in the regional tournament since 2019, when they also secured back-to-back bronze medals. The victory provided a satisfying conclusion to their first leg bid, following two consecutive losses to Thailand and Vietnam.

Key contributions came from Sisi Rondina and Eya Laure, each scoring 13 points, while middle blocker Thea Gagate added 10 markers in the four-set triumph. Their combined efforts helped the team overcome a stumble in the second set and secure the win.

For Indonesia, Arsela Nuari Purnama was a standout performer, scoring 22 points from 19 attacks, two aces, and one block.
