Game 3 Preview: San Miguel vs. Ginebra

San Miguel Beer will aim to take a 2-1 lead in the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup semifinals as they square off with Barangay Ginebra in Game 3 of their best-of-seven series on Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Dasmariñas City Arena in Cavite.

The Beermen tied the series with a thrilling 131-125 overtime victory in Game 2 last Friday, Oct. 11, an emotional and hard-fought win led by the clutch heroics of Terrence Romeo.

Romeo, who erupted for 22 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter and overtime, was perfect from beyond the arc, hitting 5-of-5 from three-point range and draining a crucial four-point shot that gave San Miguel the momentum.

San Miguel, spearheaded by Romeo, CJ Perez, import EJ Anosike, and June Mar Fajardo will look to sustain their stellar play as they attempt to ride the momentum of their Game 2 win. Perez contributed 28 points, while Anosike dominated with 35 points, further complementing Romeo’s heroics.

The Beermen will also rely on Fajardo, who has been a force to be reckoned with in the middle for San Miguel. In Game 2, he contributed 23 points, 21 rebounds, and six assists.

For Barangay Ginebra, Game 3 is an opportunity to bounce back and regain control of the series after squandering their early advantage. Despite outstanding individual performances in Game 2, the Gin Kings fell short in overtime. Justin Brownlee’s near-triple-double of 39 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists, and four steals, alongside Japeth Aguilar’s 29 points and eight rebounds, wasn’t enough to fend off San Miguel’s surge.

Ginebra will need to make adjustments, particularly on defense, to contain the red-hot Romeo. The Gin Kings are also hoping for a resurgence from Stephen Holt, who was held to just 14 points in Game 2 after exploding for 30 in the series opener. Rookie RJ Abarrientos, who managed only four points after a 13-point showing in Game 1, will also need to step up.

The stage is set for a highly anticipated Game 3, where both teams are expected to put everything on the line. Tip-off is at 5 p.m., and fans can expect another intense battle as the series hangs in the balance.
