Game 5 Preview: Rain or Shine vs. TNT

TNT Tropang Giga is just one win away from booking a return trip to the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup finals as they square off against Rain or Shine in Game 5 of their best-of-seven semifinal series.

The game will tip-off on Friday, Oct. 18, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo, where the Tropang Giga hope to close out the series after a narrow 81-79 escape in Game 4.

With a 3-1 series lead, TNT is poised to protect its throne, fueled by the relentless play of their import, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson. The reigning Best Import has been a dominant force throughout the series, putting up a monster performance in Game 4 with 23 points, 19 rebounds, five assists, five steals, and five blocks. His highlight dunk in the final 37 seconds of the game sealed TNT’s win, pushing them one step closer to the finals.

Hollis-Jefferson has received valuable support from teammates Rey Nambatac and Calvin Oftana. Both contributed 15 points in Game 4, with Nambatac adding 11 rebounds and four assists, while Oftana grabbed nine boards. This balanced offensive production has kept TNT in the driver’s seat throughout the series.

On the other side, Rain or Shine is fighting to stay alive in the semifinals. Import Aaron Fuller has been a consistent performer for the Elasto Painters, tallying 22 points and 18 rebounds in Game 4. However, if they want to force a Game 6, Rain or Shine will need more from their supporting cast, particularly veteran big man Beau Belga and younger players like Jhonard Clarito, Gian Mamuyac, Adrian Nocum, and Andrei Caracut.

The Elasto Painters have shown flashes of brilliance in the series, especially in their Game 3 victory, where Santi Santillan, Felix Lemetti, and Nocum stepped up to support Fuller in a balanced offensive effort. Replicating that kind of team-wide contribution will be crucial if Rain or Shine hopes to extend the series.

As the Tropang Giga look to punch their ticket to the championship stage, all eyes will be on whether Rain or Shine can find a way to stop Hollis-Jefferson’s dominant play and mount a comeback. The Elasto Painters will need to bring their A-game to avoid elimination, while TNT is locked in on closing out the series and moving one step closer to defending their Governors’ Cup crown.

Tip-off for this crucial Game 5 is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Ynares Center, with both teams ready to give everything they have in what promises to be another thrilling contest. Will TNT seal the deal, or can Rain or Shine force a Game 6? Fans will be eagerly watching to find out.
