Game 3 Preview: Magnolia vs. Rain or Shine

After leveling the series in dominant fashion, the Magnolia Hotshots are set to face Rain or Shine in a pivotal Game 3 of their PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinals.

With the series tied at 1-1, both teams will look to take control as they battle for a critical 2-1 advantage in the best-of-five series.

The Hotshots come into the game brimming with confidence after a resounding 121-69 win in Game 2, where they stifled the Elasto Painters with their defense and controlled the paint. Magnolia’s defense was on full display, holding Rain or Shine to just six fastbreak points while dominating the boards with a 67-37 advantage. Their ability to neutralize Rain or Shine’s running game and attack inside led to 78 points in the paint.

Jabari Bird, making his debut as Magnolia’s fourth import of the conference, wasted no time making his presence felt, contributing 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting and pulling down 13 rebounds. Bird’s addition appears to be the missing piece for a team that struggled to find the right fit for its import throughout the conference.

On the other side, Rain or Shine is looking to recover from what was the worst loss in the franchise’s history. Adding to their challenges is the absence of import Aaron Fuller, who sustained an eye injury in Game 2 after being poked by Sangalang. Fuller exited the game after just 11 minutes of action, leaving the Elasto Painters without their key reinforcement.

Despite the adversity, Rain or Shine is determined to regroup and find a way to retake the series lead. The Elasto Painters will lean heavily on their local core to step up in Fuller’s absence as they aim to bounce back and regain momentum.

Magnolia, on the other hand, is hoping to capitalize on their Game 2 momentum and take one step closer to the semifinals with another strong performance. The Hotshots’ ability to control the paint and limit Rain or Shine’s fast-paced attack will be key once again as they look to seize control of the series.

Game 3 tips off at 7:30 p.m. from Ynares Center, with both teams expected to leave everything on the floor in this crucial matchup.
