TNT dominates NLEX to seal semifinal berth in Governors’ Cup
Defending champions TNT Tropang Giga are through to the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup semifinals after dismantling the NLEX Road Warriors, 125-96, in Game 4 of their quarterfinals series at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Tuesday, October 1.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson once again proved unstoppable, leading the charge with a 35-point, 11-rebound double-double on 12-of-20 shooting. Despite a subpar 10-of-18 performance from the free-throw line, the reigning Governors’ Cup Best Import took control of the game and guided the Tropang Giga to another dominant victory.
Rey Nambatac stepped up with one of his best performances in a TNT uniform, contributing 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Roger Pogoy was equally impressive, finishing with 18 points on a near-perfect 6-of-7 clip.
TNT built on the momentum from their 109-91 Game 3 win, delivering another commanding performance that left NLEX without an answer. The Tropang Giga now await the winner of the Magnolia-Rain or Shine series, which will be decided in a do-or-die Game 5 on Saturday at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo.
For NLEX, the loss marked yet another quarterfinals exit, continuing their struggle to break through to the semifinals since their 2021 Governors’ Cup run.
Robert Bolick gave his all, finishing with 25 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, and a block, though all his points came in the first three quarters. Import DeQuan Jones had a relatively quiet game, scoring 21 points with just 3 rebounds and committing 5 turnovers.
TNT’s emphatic win puts them one step closer to defending their Governors’ Cup title as they head into the semifinals with confidence.
