Game 6 Preview: Ginebra eyes Finals spot as they look to close out San Miguel

Barangay Ginebra is just one win away from booking a trip to the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals, but standing in their way is a resilient San Miguel Beer team determined to force a deciding Game 7.

The Gin Kings will look to finish off the Beermen when they collide in Game 6 of their semifinal series.

Ginebra has the upper hand after a dominant 121-92 victory in Game 5, where they regained the series lead, 3-2, behind a well-rounded offensive explosion and stifling defense. The defending champions will be eager to avoid a winner-take-all situation, hoping to seal the deal and set up a championship showdown with TNT, who already punched their ticket to the Finals with a 4-1 series victory over Rain or Shine.

Leading the charge for Ginebra will be their dynamic import Justin Brownlee, who has consistently delivered for the Gin Kings throughout the series. Brownlee will once again rely on his trusted teammates, including former MVP Scottie Thompson, Japeth Aguilar, and rookie RJ Abarrientos, who broke out with a 28-point performance in Game 5. Abarrientos’ scoring punch, combined with Ginebra’s trademark defense, will be key to shutting the door on San Miguel’s Finals aspirations.

However, the Beermen won’t go down without a fight. With their backs against the wall, San Miguel will look to EJ Anosike, June Mar Fajardo, and CJ Perez to carry the load. Fajardo, an eight-time MVP, will be aiming for a bounce-back game after Ginebra’s defense limited him in key moments of Game 5. Perez, the Beermen’s dynamic guard, will also need to step up as San Miguel eyes a do-or-die Game 7 on Wednesday.

With the Finals within reach, Ginebra knows the importance of closing out the series, but they can expect nothing less than a fierce battle from a San Miguel side with their season on the line. All eyes will be on the Smart Araneta Coliseum as the two heavyweights clash in what could be a thrilling semifinal finale.
