Rain or Shine Blows Out TNT in Game 5 to Extend PBA Semifinals Series
Rain or Shine Elasto Painters kept their championship hopes alive in emphatic fashion, dismantling a shorthanded TNT Tropang Giga squad, 113-97, in Game 5 of the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup semifinals on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
With the win, Rain or Shine cut TNT’s series lead to 3-2 and will aim to force a Game 7 when they clash again on Sunday, July 6, at the same venue.
Missing head coach Chot Reyes—who was serving a one-game suspension after tallying five technical fouls during the conference—TNT also continued to play without veterans RR Pogoy and Kelly Williams due to injuries. The absence of leadership and depth proved costly as the Elasto Painters took full advantage, especially in the third quarter.
After holding a slim 56-52 lead at halftime, Rain or Shine broke the game wide open with a massive 37-12 run in the third period, including a 15-0 blitz that turned a tight 61-56 game into a commanding 76-56 advantage. Another 11-0 burst pushed the lead to its peak at 99-64, following a highlight four-point play from Anton Asistio.
Gian Mamuyac led the charge with 22 points, including a scorching 20-point first half, and added 3 assists to earn Best Player of the Game honors. He was backed by Jhonard Clarito, who delivered an all-around performance of 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists, one steal, and one block. Supporting them were Adrian Nocum, Keith Datu, and Andrei Caracut, each chipping in 11 points.

Rain or Shine’s defensive intensity and ball movement were evident all game. The Elasto Painters tallied 27 assists, 10 steals, and forced 19 TNT turnovers, converting those into 28 points off turnovers. In contrast, TNT managed just 16 assists, 4 steals, and 11 points off turnovers.
While TNT made a late push in the fourth quarter, outscoring Rain or Shine 33-20, the damage had already been done.
Calvin Oftana and Simon Enciso tried to keep TNT afloat with 23 and 20 points, respectively. Glenn Khobuntin and Kim Aurin added 13 apiece, but Game 4 heroes Jordan Heading and Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser were silenced, combining for just 7 points after erupting for 45 in their previous outing.
With the series now at 3-2, all eyes turn to Game 6, where Rain or Shine will look to ride their momentum and push the Tropang Giga to the brink.
