Ginebra gets younger, trades for Stephen Holt, Isaac Go in blockbuster deal

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel bolstered their lineup for the upcoming season in a blockbuster trade with Terrafirma Dyip, acquiring young guns Stephen Holt and Isaac Go in exchange for veterans Christian Standhardinger and Stanley Pringle, along with their first-round picks in the 2024 PBA Rookie Draft.

The Gin Kings sent Standhardinger, Pringle, and their 10th pick in the 2024 PBA Rookie Draft to Terrafirma for Holt, Go, and the third overall pick. The move allows Ginebra to snag a top prospect in the upcoming draft, scheduled for July 14 at Glorietta, Makati.

The trade signifies a shift towards a younger core for Ginebra. By acquiring the 25-year-old Holt and the 23-year-old Go, the Gin Kings gain fresh energy and talent, addressing the need for reinforcements after injuries to key players Scottie Thompson and Jamie Malonzo.

Both Holt and Go were instrumental in Terrafirma’s run to the Philippine Cup quarterfinals last conference. Fans can expect them to contribute immediately and provide much-needed support for the Gin Kings’ backcourt and frontline.

Meanwhile, Standhardinger, a former top pick himself in 2017, finds himself on his fourth team in the PBA, having played for San Miguel, NorthPort, and Ginebra. The versatile big man will add experience and size to the Terrafirma Dyip squad.

This trade significantly alters the landscape for both teams. Barangay Ginebra gets a younger foundation for the future, while Terrafirma acquires a proven veteran and a draft pick to build around. The impact of this deal will undoubtedly be a major storyline to follow throughout the upcoming PBA Season 49.
