Alas Pilipinas Women fall short in five-set exhibition match against Korea’s Powerful Daegu

The Philippine women’s national volleyball team, Alas Pilipinas Women, faced a tough battle against South Korea’s Powerful Daegu in a five-set exhibition match on Friday titled “Serve, Spike, Unite!” held in Daegu City.

Despite a valiant effort, Alas Pilipinas fell short, losing 26-24, 23-25, 23-25, 25-16, 8-15.

Alas Pilipinas started strong, securing a narrow victory in the first set (26-24). However, the Korean team responded fiercely in the second set, pulling off a dominant 15-6 run that ultimately led them to a 25-23 win. The following two sets were equally close, with both teams exchanging points and showcasing their skills. Alas Pilipinas managed to force a deciding fifth set after winning the fourth set (25-16).

The pressure mounted in the final set, and unfortunately, Alas Pilipinas couldn’t sustain their momentum. A late scoring surge by the Korean team sealed the victory, leaving the final score at 15-8 in favor of Powerful Daegu.

This exhibition match served as a crucial test for Alas Pilipinas, especially following their historic bronze medal win in the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup for Women. It also provided valuable preparation for the upcoming FIVB Volleyball Women’s Challenger Cup scheduled for next month at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Beyond the competition, the match held significance in celebrating the 75th year of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and South Korea. It also served as a showpiece event for the 126th Philippine Independence Day celebration in Korea.

The Alas Pilipinas Women’s team will undoubtedly learn from this experience and use it to refine their strategies and strengthen their teamwork in preparation for future international challenges.
