Game 3 Preview: San Miguel vs. Converge

San Miguel Beermen are just one win away from punching their ticket to the semifinals as they face the Converge FiberXers in Game 3 of the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup quarterfinals on September 30 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

With a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series, the Beermen are on the verge of a sweep, while Converge is in a do-or-die situation, needing a victory to extend their playoff run.

San Miguel’s Game 2 victory, a 107-100 triumph, showcased their star power, particularly young reinforcement EJ Anosike, who dropped 41 points to lead the charge. Since replacing the injured Jordan Adams, Anosike has found his rhythm and solidified his place in San Miguel’s offense. With June Mar Fajardo dominating the paint and CJ Perez providing the spark on both ends, the Beermen have been a well-oiled machine, playing with composure and sticking to their system.

As they prepare for Game 3, San Miguel will look to maintain their balanced attack and capitalize on their experience to finish off Converge. Fajardo’s presence inside and Perez’s versatility have complemented Anosike’s scoring prowess, giving the Beermen multiple weapons on the floor.

On the other side, the Converge FiberXers are facing elimination and will need a near-perfect performance to keep their season alive. Jalen Jones has been a consistent force for Converge, delivering a standout 36-point, 12-rebound effort in Game 2. However, Jones will need more support from his teammates if the FiberXers hope to challenge the Beermen.

Alec Stockton contributed 14 points in Game 2, while former Rookie of the Year Justin Arana added 12 points before exiting the game with a right knee injury. Arana’s status remains uncertain for Game 3, and his potential absence could be a major blow to Converge’s frontcourt.

With their backs against the wall, Converge will need to dig deep and find contributions from across their roster to avoid a sweep and force a Game 4.

Tipoff for Game 3 is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., with San Miguel aiming to close out the series and advance to the Final Four, while Converge fights to extend their postseason hopes.
